Eleuthera. It is often said that the best works are those that the authors did not perform in public, but those who write for themselves. In the diaries I would in fact their most authentic and secret. But since the publication of these diaries has become common practice (sometimes with the authors still alive), not only has lost its spontaneity of the writing, but communicate with urgency to the world simple memos or annotations that appear rather insignificant manifestation of an irrepressible graphomania.
In this irreverent travelogue (Pierre Enckell, Che gioia vivere – diario perpetuo per depressi e ipocondriaci - What a joy to live - Perpetual Calendar for depressed and hypochondriacal, Eleuthera 2011, pages. 160, 14,00 euro) in the human condition, marked as a perpetual calendar, each new day offers a note sadly taken from the diaries, all strictly edited, over one hundred and twenty writers - from Tostoj to Kafka, from Simenon to Dali - dealing with the small annoyances of daily life . A hilarious whining, "author", where banality and laments form a monologue that cancels the differences between an author and the other in a maniacal attention to their physical condition and their moods. In short, an anthology of newspaper unintended black humor that actually works as a powerful antidepressant fast cathartic effect. Pierre Enckell, Finnish by birth, adoption of the Swiss and French existential choice, was first a sailor, then a journalist in "Les Nouvelles littéraires 'and to'" Evénement du Jeudi. "Finally arrived at the Institut national de la langue française, where he served for years as a researcher. A prolific author and unpredictable, among other things wrote the Dictionary of onomatopoeia, the Dictionary of dog names and nine volumes of lexicographical dating.
